The Samian Wine Festivities were organized for the first time in 1995, in succession of the Samian Wine Festival, formerly organized under the aegis of the Greek National Tourism Organization (Ε.Ο.Τ.) In 1995, a legal entity was founded in the Municipality, carrying the responsibility for the organization of this festival and other events.
Since 1999, the Festivities expanded to the Municipal Departments that were included in the new Municipality of Vathy and a festal event is organized in every Department.

For seven days, the Municipal Departments and the town of Samos host dancing clubs from each part of the island that perform local dances, as well as traditional dances from other regions of Greece. One of the festive nights is always dedicated to the young including the respective program, another one is the fish-night with free distribution of fish, while the last night includes a concert with well-known artists from Athens. During the Festivities, wine is for free and every year there are different pavilions and various happenings. The Festivities are very popular and are considered as the island’s top entertaining event during the summer, because they take place in the open air and admission is free.
