Accomplishments of the organization
Following a decision of its board of directors M.O.Y.S.
participated as a founding member in the formation of a national
network of Municipal organizations aiming to promote sports.
The Municipality of Vathi is the only Municipality on the island that
(in cooperation with the prefecture of Samos) achieved it’s enrollment
on the “Hellenic Training Guide for the preparation of National teams”.
This is done in the framework of the nation’s preparation for the 2004
Olympic Games. For that reason equipment costing more than 1,000,000
Euro was purchased.

MASS ATHLETICS
M.O.Y.S. in cooperation with the General Secretariat of Sports
organizes every year many mass sports events that aim to attract
citizens of all the ages. Those programs include:
- Gymnastics in the pre-school age (This program covers the needs
of the municipality’s kindergartens).
- Gymnastics in childhood.
- Gymnastics and children.
- Gymnastics for the youth.
- Gymnastics for adults.
- Women and sports (this program is the one with the highest
participation).
- Gymnastics for elderly people.
- Swimming lessons for children (this is a summer program).
All programs have considerably high rate of attendance.
A basic task of the organization for the following year is the
creation of basketball and volleyball academies in all the distant
municipal districts. This is done in order to give to all the youth of
the municipality the chance to develop and exploit their interest for
sports. Following the same policy M.O.Y.S. will occupy a trainer who
will operate the program ‘’women and sports’’ in the distant districts
of the municipality.
1st Climbing Games: The games were organized by
M.O.Y.S. and the newly established climbing club of Samos. The games
took place in on of the two climbing fields of the municipality of
Vathi, located at the Zoodochos Pigi area. The games included:
- A tough round where the athletes should complete a difficult and
demanding track without falling.
- A speed round where the winner was the athlete to achieve the
best time in climbing a certain track.
The participation in the games was 10 men and 6 women. Both
athletes and sports fans were very satisfied with the organization of
the games.

M.O.Y.S. : A supporter of H.C.H.C. of Samos
A few months ago funs of climbing and hiking in Samos established
the Hellenic Climbing and Hiking Club of Samos (H.C.H.C.S.).
H.C.H.C.S. is a non-profit organization aiming to promote the mountain-sports
on our island. M.O.Y.S. Supports the efforts of H.C.H.C.S. and for
that reason purchased and provided it climbing and mountain walking
equipment. With that equipment H.C.H.C.S. will open up new footpaths
and will contribute to the maintenance of the existing ones. Moreover
H.C.H.C.S. undertook the signaling of the footpaths and the creation
of new climbing fields.
M.O.Y.S. :A supporter of the Games for citizens with special
needs.
M.O.Y.S. offers considerable help to the “special” athletes of the
island. It has conceded some of the working hours of the sports hall
for the gymnastics needs of the children of the special school of the
municipality. Moreover, M.O.Y.S. materializes a special program (Within
the framework of the Mass Sports agenda) for those kids. With the
support of the organization, athletes from the special school
participated in the mountain race organized in Karlovasi. Another
event, realized with the support of the organization, was the
basketball demonstration by the athletes of the special school. This
event took place in the framework of the elementary schools basketball
games of the Vathy municipality in January 2000. Finally M.O.Y.S
donated full sports outfit to all the kids of the special school so
that they can have uniform appearance in the sports events they
participate.
The contribution of M.O.Y.S. to the Sports
Infrastructure of the municipality
M.O.Y.S. considers sports infrastructure to be a very important
issue. Without adequate sports facilities neither mass nor competitive
sport would be able to develop. The organization doesn’t employ the
technical staff needed to construct sport facilities. However, with
all the available means (and always under the supervision of the
professional trainers it employs) it monitors the needs of the
municipal districts in sports material and facilities and intervenes
whenever it is possible.
Following meetings of its’ sports and education committees, the
municipality of Vathy decided the creation of a modern sports center (including
a football stadium, basketball and tennis fields) The budget of the
project is 3,000,000 Euro.

Minister and President of PASOK Kostas Simitis.
- - Pre-elections speech by the leader
of ND, Kostas Karamanlis.
- - Pan-Samian cultural event organized
by the Holy Metropolis of Samos and Ikaria.
- - The progressive movement of Samian
Women was allotted the sports hall in order to organize an event to
sow the support of Samian people to the Struggle of the Palestinian
people.
A few words for the sport clubs of the Municipality
The following sport clubs operate in the municipality of Vathi:
- The Sport club ENOSI with a football division.
- The Sport club ANAGENISI with Basketball, Football and Athletics
divisions for all ages and with a Volleyball division for men and
women.
- The Sport club KOUROS with Basketball and Volleyball divisions
for all ages and with a Cycling and a Weight Lifting division.
- The sport club ELPIDA with a Basketball division for men,
teenagers and boys.
- The sport club ANATOLI with a football division.
- The sport club ARISTARXOS with a Football division for men and
boys and a Volleyball division for women.
